Masterclasse Leslie Lewis

IMEP • Paris College of Music welcomes Leslie Lewis, jazz singer, for a masterclass on 14 October at 7pm!

Theme: Bringing Your Songs To Life : taking a song from the beginning stages to a performance level.

Topics include:

  • the rhythmic energy of the song
  • stage presence
  • how to be fearless when you perform
  • how to connect with the audience
  • how to fit in with the group

This training is intended for singers, but many topics apply to all musicians.

Participation is free for IMEP students, with a €10 charge for non-IMEP students.

Biography : After living in Los Angeles for many years, jazz vocalist Leslie and her husband pianist Gerard Hagen followed a dream and relocated to Paris.

They have collectively released eight CDs that have been played on international radio stations and reviewed in the Los Angeles Times, Jazz Times Magazine, Los Angeles Jazz Scene, Jazz Improv Magazine, Cadence Magazine, Cashbox, All About Jazz, All Music Guide and Jazz Hot Magazine.

Leurs tournées les ont menés en Europe, en Asie, en Afrique et aux États-Unis, notamment dans des salles de concert à Londres, Paris, Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles et San Francisco.

Notable performances include Jazz A Vienne, Royal College of Music, London, Pizza Express Jazz Club, London, Sunside Jazz Club, Paris, and Lehman College Jazz Festival, New York. Leslie has been a featured vocalist with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, Pacific Symphony, Jazz Tap Ensemble, and has performed with members of the Duke Ellington Orchestra, including Britt Woodman and Norris Turney.

She has also played with John Bunch, Joe Wilder, Harry Allen and Rhoda Scott.

Gerard is active as a performer, arranger, producer, and was an associate professor of jazz piano at Saddleback College in California. He currently teaches at IMEP.
