Life at IMEP
A school in the heart of the city
IMEP – Paris College of Music is located in the heart of Paris’ 14th arrondissement, 5mn walk from the metro and RER station at Denfert-Rochereau. The city center, with its numerous jazz clubs and bars, is just a few minutes away by public transport. The local environment is lively and safe.
With 4 sound-proofed booths, 7 work spaces wired for multimedia and available for group and orchestral practice and a recording studio, IMEP-Paris College of Music provides students with a professional-standard work space tailor-made for their musical development. These excellent practice facilities are also available to students outside classroom hours. To complete the package there is an administrative area and a lobby/common room where students can hang out together and eat meals.
IMEP – Paris College of Music is more than just a school: it’s a Parisian center for musical practice and learning.
Play, live, learn at IMEP
Masterclass, workshops, invited artists…
IMEP – Paris College of Music provides a forum where people can coexist and share experiences while remaining open to the outside world.
Professionals such as musicians, promoters, broadcasters, artists, instrumentalists, teachers, event programmers, and journalists are regularly invited to the school to give masterclasses, lectures, and workshops of various kinds.
These events are primarily organized for the benefit of our students, providing an opportunity to meet and talk to professionals from various sectors of the music industry.
The system offers two advantages:
- To learn from some of the greatest professionals of our time;
- To have an opportunity to meet and talk to leading artists.
Concerts, jam sessions, showcases, auditions before a panel of teachers…
IMEP – Paris College of Music is an environment in which you will be surrounded by live music. We organize all kinds of musical events: jam sessions at IMEP or in partner cultural venues, large concerts in major Paris venues (Studio de l’Ermitage, Sunset/Sunside, New Morning, Bal Blomet and many others…), showcasing former students. Our events program is rich and diverse.
At the end of each term, students from the Professional Program perform in public, either by taking part in concerts organized by IMEP – Paris College of Music at a Paris club or by playing for a panel of teachers. This practical experience of playing onstage is an essential part of the course.
At the end of the year all students from the Open Program, together with students from the “preparatory” classes and our extra-curricular workshops, perform live in a Paris concert venue.
The BDE (student association) also regularly organizes events (jam-sessions, workshops, tutorials etc. for its members. Learn more
These events are moments of festive enjoyment in the social calendar of our school, while also forming an integral part of the curriculum. They provide an opportunity for students and teachers to get together in a different context and also for former students to reconnect with their teachers and classmates. The experience also provides concrete feedback on the personal and instrumental issues which students must grapple with to enhance their stage performance.
