IMEP • Paris College of Music welcomes Jeff Boudreaux, multi-style drummer and percussionist from New Orleans, for a masterclass on January 23 from 7pm!

Jeff Boudreaux will cover the basics of New Orleans rhythmic syncopation, the funky New Orleans drumming style and a wide range of general musical topics. The masterclass is open to drummers and other instrumentalists and singers.

Participation is free for IMEP students. A fee of 10 euros is charged for non-IMEP students.

Biography :

Born in New Orleans, Jeff Boudreaux came from a musical family and was an original student of the master New Orleans drummer, Johnny Vidacovich. He was also one of the first teachers of the legendary jazz drummer, Brian Blade, one of JD Beck’s mentors and has been teaching at both the CNSMDP in Paris and the Bruckner University in Austria for the last 30 years.

Jeff is the quintessential multi-styled drummer with a huge background of experience having played thousands of concerts in jazz, pop, funk, rock, hip-hop, r&b and latin music around the world. He has also had years of experience in top classical orchestras around the world both on percussion and drums as has recorded over three dozen movie and television soundtracks for the noted French film music composer Alexandre Desplat

He has accompanied a wide variety of top artists over the years in the world of jazz and fusion including Wynton and Branford Marsalis, Randy Brecker, John Scofield, David Murray, Terrence Blanchard, Nicolas Payton, Jean Michel Pilc, Jacky Terrasson, Rick Margitza and Harry Connick Jr, Toot’s Thielemans, Stephane Guillaume, Christophe Monniot etc… bassists Lynlé Marthe, Etienne Mbappe, Michel Alibo, Mike Clinton, Francois Moutin etc… singers Astrud Gilberto, Melody Gardot, Kurt Elling and many more…

In other styles, he has performed countless times with George Porter (the bassist of the famed New Orleans band, “The Meters”), Jon Cleary, Bernard Allison, Ivan, Charles and Charmaine Neville, Jesse Harris, Lucky Peterson, Chocolate Genius etc… as well as legendary icons such as The Temptations, Liza Minelli, Lena Horne, Dione Warwick, Lou Rawls, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Allen Toussaint, James Booker, Sammy Davis Jr. and many more…. as well as countless New York Broadway Shows.

His French pop music performing and recording credits include Julien Doré, Francoise Hardy, Hugh Coltman, La Grande Sophie, Jeanne Cherhal, Vincent Ségal, Seb Martel, Piers Faccini, DJ Shalom and many others…

Jeff’s classical music experience includes 10 years with the New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra and guest appearances with the Radio Orchestra of France, L’Orchestre de la Haute de Seine, as well as the Munich, London, Prag and Geneva Symphony Orchestras.

He has also recorded dozens of soundtracks both in France and London with French composer Alexandre Desplat including the Oscar-winning score to the film The Shape of Water, An officer and a Spy (J’accuse), The Sisters Brothers, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and many more…

Jeff is currently performing in Paris every Monday night with Rick Margitza at La Gare and occasional Friday nights with the legendary bassist of Brian Blade’s band, Christopher Thomas at Le Barbizon as well as performing throughout Europe.
