Serge Ananou at la Dame de Canton
With former student Serge Ananou
Born in Benin in the late 70s, Serge Ananou grew up in the working-class districts of Cotonou, where he discovered Vodoun rhythms and culture at an early age. In 2002, he embarked on his first European tour with the Fifawa Band, playing dates in Switzerland, France, Italy and elsewhere. In 2006, Serge decided to move to France.
Serge Ananou’s music remains African, but incorporates contributions from funk, blues and jazz. Accompanied on stage by 4 experienced and musically generous musicians, he adapts his show to suit the audience, sharing his joie de vivre, his values and his emotions.
