The IMEP Big Band is a large orchestra made up of about twenty musicians, including students from the school and musicians from outside the school.
Created in 2005 by François Fichu and Phil Hilfiker, the Big Band is now led by Phil Hilfiker and Ramon Fossati.
The Big Band gives Upper Division students the opportunity to practice conducting and to have their compositions and arrangements performed. It thus ensures the essential practical application of their knowledge, enabling them to transform that knowledge into practical skills.
A true springboard for our young musicians that allows us to enjoy the talent of the future stars of jazz. It is one of the cornerstones of the IMEP program.
The IMEP Big Band performs every year at the graduation ceremony at venues such as the Studio de l’Ermitage, the Café de la Danse, the Sunset-Sunside, and others. The repertoire consists exclusively of a selection of arrangements in various styles, created by our graduate students.
