Michael Felberbaum meets Eva Koch
Michael Felberbaum meets Eva Koch is the spellbinding encounter between the spectacular videos of Danish artist Eva Koch and the spatial, rhythmic jazz of Paris-based Italian-American guitarist and composer Michael Felberbaum.
Sculptor and video artist Eva Koch regularly exhibits her work in Denmark and abroad. Several of her installations have been added to Denmark’s public spaces. Renowned guitarist and composer Michael Felberbaum has lived in France for over twenty years and has toured and recorded in Europe, North America, and South Asia for his own projects as well as alongside some of the biggest names in the business. He also regularly composes for theater and cinema.
This Franco-Danish production, created in Denmark, is being presented exclusively in France at Le Bicolore as part of the Liberty and Tradition exhibition. The collaboration between these two talented and renowned artists is yet another example of the creative dialogue between France and Denmark.
Michael Felberbaum and Eva Koch, through their sensibilities and personal backgrounds, succeed in bringing their distinct artistic fields together in dialogue, drawing the viewer into a unique experience: Michael Felberbaum’s group plays while Eva Koch’s videos are projected behind the musicians. The images present a profusion of natural elements, in motion and mainly from the Nordic world: bubbling water and waterfalls, grandiose landscapes, but also light… They can be more symbolic, such as poppies, a reference to the battlefields of the First World War. Michael Feberbaum’s quartet offers music that is as sensitive as it is energetic, alternately airy and groovy. It brings together the most talented musicians from the French and international jazz scene—Pierre de Bethmann, Karl Jannuska, and Gabriel Midon—who contribute to forging a true “group sound” that only genuine complicity, beyond individual talents, can create.
