Fred Wesley Generations at the New Morning

The groove legend: Fred Wesley, icon of the very select funk family, has collaborated with James Brown, Maceo Parker, George Clinton and Bootsy Collins.

This jazz-inspired trombonist, with accents of soul music and gospel, currently roars his trombone in a trio with organist Leonardo Corradi and drummer Tony Match. A few decades after his work with James Brown and George Clinton established him as one of the pioneers of funk, Fred Wesley launches a new project that links him to his jazz roots and to the future: Generations.

Generations is an evolving trio featuring Fred Wesley on trombone, Leonardo Corradi on organ and French drummer Tony Match. These three musicians originally got together to pay tribute to the soulful jazz of the legendary Jimmy Smith. Today, they have found harmony and continue to play together. Their show combines Wesley’s talent and experience, Corradi’s energetic reflection on Smith and other historic jazz giants, and Match’s jazz drumming tinged with unique influences from African rhythms and electronic sounds.
