Corto Vermée began playing drums at the age of 6. He first trained at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Départemental (CRD) in Auxerre, where he discovered jazz and developed a keen interest in improvisation. He then continued his studies at the IMEP • Paris College of Music, as well as at the conservatory in Paris’s 17th arrondissement. He graduated from IMEP in 2017 with honours.
Throughout his training, he participated in numerous workshops led by renowned musicians and teachers such as Bernard Lubat, André Charlier, Franck Agulhon, and Jon Grandcamp. Between 2020 and 2023, he received individual coaching from Franck Agulhon, deepening his approach to playing, listening, and rhythmic language.
A versatile drummer, Corto plays in groups with diverse styles, ranging from jazz to contemporary music and free improvisation. He performs with Les Fanteuves, the trio 3 Petits Points, Vinz Le Mariachi, Isthme, and Mãi Mãi, with whom he released the EP Rise in 2024.
Passionate about passing on his knowledge, in 2017 he co-founded the Sunjazz association, which organises music workshops designed to encourage interaction, collective learning and musical creation. He now teaches drums at IMEP • Paris College of Music, with a demanding yet supportive teaching approach focused on listening, technical mastery and the development of a personal artistic identity.
