Considered “a brilliant improviser” by Jazzwise, guitarist Romain Pilon has established himself as one of the leading figures on the contemporary jazz scene. Internationally acclaimed, he has toured as a leader in every corner of the globe, sharing the stage or studio with such renowned artists as Brian Blade, Ben Wendel, Jeff Ballard, Seamus Blake, Walter Smith III, Baptiste Trotignon, Sylvain Luc, Linda May Han Oh and many others…For the first time as a leader on the 38 Riv stage, Romain Pilon presents “Open Roads”, his new album, undoubtedly the most personal project of his career.
At his side are two exceptional musicians: drummer Fred Pasqua, his long-time partner, with whom he shares a rare musical rapport. And as a special guest, the young double bassist Ton Felices, a prodigy based in Amsterdam, already displaying remarkable sensitivity.
Carried by poetic writing and a wealth of textures and atmospheres, this trio’s music draws its influences from Led Zeppelin as well as Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis and Erik Satie. A sonic journey at the crossroads between lyricism, energy and freedom.
