The bassist and composer Ronan Guilfoyle is one of the most respected Irish musicians. He will be at the IMEP \u2022 Paris College of Music <\/b>(7 rue Emile Dubois Paris XIV, France)<\/em> on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 2:30pm for a masterclass followed by an information session at 5 pm about the opportunity to study at Dublin City University<\/b> in Ireland which is now preparing a state-recognized music diploma.<\/p>\n Ronan Guilfoyle is the former director of the jazz program at the Newpark Music Center in Dublin<\/b>. He is now director of the Jazz and Contemporary Music Performance program<\/b>, which is now part of the Dublin City University (DCU) program.<\/p>\n This event is presented by IMEP \u2022 Paris College of Music<\/strong> in collaboration with the Jazz and Contemporary Music Department of Dublin City University<\/strong> as part of the #BerkleeGlobalPartners<\/b> international network<\/strong><\/p>\n Ronan is a major figure on the Irish jazz scene and has developed an international reputation as an interpreter, teacher and composer. He has studied with John Abercrombie, Dave Holland and Steve Coleman.<\/b> Acoustic bassist since the early 1980s, Ronan is now one of the main representatives of this instrument. He had the opportunity to work with Dave Liebman, Kenny Werner, Kenny Wheeler, Keith Copeland, Brad Mehldau, John Abercrombie, Larry Coryell, Benny Golson, Jim McNeely, Sonny Fortune, Andrea Keller, Andy Laster, Emily Remler, Simon Nabatov , Richie Beirach and Tom Rainey.<\/b><\/p>\n He has also directed his own bands since the mid-1980s, and toured extensively in Europe, Asia and North America. He has recorded numerous titles as a sideman and as a leader and his production includes the award-winning “Devsirme” in 1997. He has received commissions from a wide range of ensembles and organizations, including the RTE Concert Orchestra Dublin, the Opus 20 String Orchestra in London and the European Jazz Youth Orchestra.<\/b><\/p>\n Over the past 10 years Ronan has become very well known for teaching advanced rhythmic techniques for jazz improvisation and for his book “Creative Rhythmic Concepts for Jazz Improvisation.”<\/b> He has been invited to teach this subject in many schools. He is also Associate Artist of the Royal Academy of Music in London and has also lectured at the UNESCO International Music Congress in Copenhagen, founder and head of the jazz department at the Newpark Music Center in Dublin, the only school offering post-secondary jazz courses in Ireland.<\/b><\/p>\n Renowned programs from the Newpark Music Center are now integrated into the University of Dublin and lead to a state-recognized diploma.<\/b><\/p>\n Full-time study programs at the renowned Newpark Music Center, Ireland’s leading center for jazz-related music education, have been transferred to Dublin City University since 2017 and are consolidated by a new Bachelor in Jazz and Contemporary Music Performance<\/b>.<\/p>\n This new curriculum is available since September 2017. A key element of this degree is its connection to Berklee College of Music in Boston<\/b>, one of the world’s most prestigious music schools of contemporary music. It is expected that this degree will be of great interest to national and international students.<\/p>\n Applications for the program will be made through the Central Application Office (CAO). This new diploma will be taught on the Glasnevin and Drumcondra campuses of DCU and, with a focus on performance. This will complement existing DCU music offerings, which currently include the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Religious Education and Music.
