Didier Ambact, alone on stage, plays his drums, sound effects and chromatic percussion to Maya Deren’s black and white films. A major figure in American experimental cinema in the 1940s, with clear surrealist tendencies, she filmed dancing bodies here accompanied by live music. In the spirit of popular fairs and the early days of cinematography, the concert-cinema proposed by Didier Ambact, who often collaborates with choreographer Christian Rizzo, explores the relationship between time, the body and space. The music magnificently underlines the curves of the filmed bodies, giving them boundless power. A hypnotic experience.
